PLAYDATES!

It’s a drop-in playdate for your voice & body to move it around! It’s a drop-in to your sense of fun and nonsense,  a drop-in to the power & pandemonium of our collective imaginations on stage…

Each week, Playdates focus on a different principle of play through improvisation, group games, exercises and exploits —  helping you to rediscover & reconnect to playful impulses, access a keen sense of aliveness & breathe new life into characters, texts, worlds...

CHARACTER LAB

@ Pandemonium Studio, NYC

Where do characters come from, and how do they come to life? What's the relationship of the actor to the character they play, and how can the actor play so that the character can come fully forward and the audience can dream and play along too?

Breaking up with backstory, script analysis & psychological motivation as the primary means to develop character, we’ll move through a sequence of physically-based, playful and generative exercises - along with the help of the audience - to bring both actor and character/s to life.

Participants will complete two character études during the lab — emerging with ways to both develop original characters and material, and to reimagine their approach to characters in scripted work.

THE ACTOR AT PLAY

@ Berg Studios, LA

What if acting were just play, and the key to your aliveness on stage, was primarily a matter of reconnecting to your playful impulses with, for and through the

audience? In this workshop, games & exercises drawn from the world of clown and its related forms will help actors to rediscover their pleasure in playing,

unleash their unique comic nature, and deep dive into the mess and magic of the comic world. Actors will emerge with a set of essential principles from play, clown & physical comedy (aka the pandemonium arts), as well as new insights and tools for approaching a character, text, world or story through one’s appetite for play.
